Lee Enfields – new made variations

There have been few rifles more attention getting than the recent Lee Enfield based  rifles from AIA in Australia. Concrete information has at times been hard to find, this is picture and information profile from their web site in March 2010.

They show up (2020) in the used rifle for sale columns.

A quick summary of the differences between these and Lee Enfields is; caliber 7.62 NATO, a heavier and simplified receiver, teak wood work, hard chrome alloy barrels reputedly from a US military rotary gun. Owners report good accuracy and are happy with their rifles, although buyers report they can be difficult to locate in a retail outlet. The makers, located in Queensland, Australia, if they respond to emails, can steer buyers to stores that have them for sale.

Overall a slightly pricey rifle whose quality and buyer satisfaction is rated high.

They have sometimes been available, 2011, at Lawrence Ordnance, Sydney, and Marstar, Canada.

The IOF .315 Sporting Rifle is a civilian version of the British military Lee-Enfield rifle, chambered in the 8x50mmR Mannlicher cartridge rather than the .303 British military cartridge due to Indian gun control laws. The .315 Sporting Rifle is made by the Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli.,[1] which manufactured Lee-Enfield rifles for the British colonial Indian Army and post-independence Indian forces. It has a box-type magazine which holds 5 rounds. The rifle uses a 8 mm cartridge based on the 8x50mmR Mannlicher but loaded with hunting-type bullets rather than military ones.
