Trentham Range Days

Hello all,

There have been enquiries about opportunities  to do some shooting at Trentham. Here is a list of dates that would benefit any shooters intending to shoot the Dick Travis VC .303 nationals.

February Saturday 15th Shooting two strings of twelve shots at 500 yards at 12.45pm.

February Sunday 23rd Karori Rifle Club is holding a 300 or 500 or 600 yards practice shoot at 9.00am  – Note:  Anyone intending to take this opportunity to shoot  must contact the Match Director prior to that date.

March Saturday 1st Shooting two strings of twelve shots at 500 yards at 12.45pm.

March Saturday 8th Shooting two strings of twelve shots at 300 yards at 12.45pm.

Remember it is necessary that rifles need to have a wind and elevation zero first. This can be easily established at any distance from 25 yards to 100 yards. Various charts will give details of likely elevations. For what it is worth a stand velocity 174 projectile from a 24 inch barrel .303 needs one inch point of impact above the centre line at 25 yards. It is that simple. This will get you on the target at 300 yards and near the centre.

Any .303 Target rifles going to be used at Trentham must have been inspected by a gunsmith and certified as sound. Please do this and get it in writing. (and keep it with you) It is in the Range Standing Orders.

A run through at any of the above dates will give you the opportunity to establish a true zero at that distance. Other ranges can easily be extrapolated from that zero. It is also a chance to test your pet loads, your sling and sighting arrangements.

Please call by the Karori Rifle Club well before the time allocated and introduce yourself to a member. You will be looked after. You will have a good shoot. You will  get valuable practice before the Dick Travis VC in March.

Do not hesitate to direct any queries to me,

Best regards,

Duncan McKee
